3A SCHOLARSHIP

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS & APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION: Applicants must have successfully graduated from an accredited high school of Lompoc or Santa Maria, CA. with an overall cumulative GPA of 2.7 or above. Must have taken the SAT or ACT test. Must have applied or been pre-screened by a 2 year Community College or a 4 year College or University. Applicant must be in good standing with local and federal law. Applicant should be involved with Community Service. Must have participated in a high school athletic sport or arts club / group (sanctioned by the institution), and be in pursuit of careers in athletic, arts, and or academic teaching fields.

SELECTION PROCESS: Scholarships are awarded through a competitive review process. Award consideration will include review and assessment on an overall 100% formula: GPA (30%), Essay (40%), Volunteer Participation (15%), and Letters of Recommendation (15%). Not all applicants will receive an award. The offer of a scholarship is valid only during the academic year (s) for which the offer is made.

APPLICATION INSTRUCTIONS:

It is the responsibility of the student applicant to submit a complete packet (one original application packet) to the

J-SMOOV 3A Scholarship Committee @ P.O. Box 712 Lompoc, CA 93438 no later than (TBA) by 5:00pm.

Late applications will not be accepted.

FINANCIAL NEED INFORMATION:

Applicant may be required to submit financial need information (utility bill from home of family or self, income verification, income and expense total). If requested, failure to comply will automatically disqualify applicant

SCHOLARSHIP AWARDS AND FUNDING PROCEDURES:

The student(s) selected for a scholarship will be expected to meet with President of J-SMOOV to review and discuss requirements.

The selectee will be required to sign paperwork for receipt of funds. The scholarship funds in the total amount of$1000.00 will be available

and distributed in 2 phases, the fall (year) semester and spring (year) semester.

ESSAY INFORMATION & CRITERIA:

The written essay is to be 2-2.5 pages, typed, applicant is required to use 12pt font, Times Roman style (black), doubled spaced. The essay is to be written on the concept of how athletics, academics, and or the arts have played a role in your high school career and how it has supported your personal and social development. Applicant should express to the committee how their relationship with GOD has played a role in the development of their personal growth and current social understanding. Applicant should express how their high school involvement will have an effect on their future career choice. Applicant should express how they envision the use of this scholarship in supporting their educational goals. (See format page)
